So here's my problem guys..
Recently I did a clean install of windows XP on my PC, everything goes smooth and no errors. But after a day I use it and shut it down for an hour and when I return and turn my PC again this problem comes out.. I have no idea why it happened, so if anyone knows how to fix this I will gladly appreciate it.. Btw. I have some experienced on PC troubleshooting but sad to say it is my first time to encounter this problem and I have no idea how to fix it. So please I really need your help guys..

Causes of CMOS Checksum Bad Error

There are usually three main reasons that a CMOS Checksum Bad Error occurs. They include:

1. CMOS Battery may not be functioning properly. The battery life may have expired. (it's probably this)
2. The user or a virus may have updated the BIOS.
3. The computer may not have been shut down properly e.g. shutting off the computer’s main power without first shutting down the computer (MS Windows requires the computer to be shut down before the power is shut off).

Cmos equals continuous metal oxide semiconductor. It is the small disk battery found on your motherboard. It is usually a cr2032 that can be purchased at a walmart...etc. In a laptop, it could be sheathed in a holder of some type and be more expensive.

hmmm.. probably its not a 'CMOS' error. its a Bad BIOS checksum error.

nope.. that is why I was puzzled why this happened i just did a clean install and everything was fine and after 1 day i still use it and after an hour when I turn my PC on this problem comes out.. I've been doing some reformat and clean install before and I never encounter this problem before its my 1st time to have this problem. T_T

after reformatting(doing a clean Install of Windows XP) I did never configure or change anything on my BIOS set-up.

What is the make and model of your computer.
Also, have you been able to get in to the BIOS setup?
If so, post a screen shot/picture.

As dbarker suggested please post as much detail as requested.
If you did change the cmos battery and the problem is still there this suggests the bios chip.
Looking at the age of your machine pic above you might think is so old, is it worth repairing? In your location the chip may be difficult to obtain.
But it is important for the relevant details of the MB.

Was it because of this error you are now getting?

Just a clarification CMOS and cmos battery are not the same. CMOS is a circuitry design/chip while cmos battery (mostly CR2032 on computers) powers the cmos so that it can retain whatever data the cmos holds even when for example a PC (with the BIOS configuration) is turned off.

As to the OP's problem, maybe clearing cmos through a jumper on the motherboard might resolve the checksum error. If this doesn't help, maybe reprogramming the BIOS through BIOS update will do the trick.

Download the latest BIOS file (I would suggest not the beta) and BIOS updater from here http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&m=P4VP-MX&hashedid=h2IybiXlhuhUUW38

Just a word of caution, be very careful. As this procedure, if not done right would render your pc inoperative, although very remote.

And don't try it if you have electrical storms in the area, or are likely to get power cuts/outages.

The best place to start is in your motherboard manual. Your MB has CrashFree BIOS 2.
Take a look at section 2.1.4 in the manual. also section 2.1 would be good reading.

can you see menu choices at the botom of the screen such as <del> - setup, <F2> - EZ Flash? Also try to clear CMOS memory first as I have suggested in one of my POST above. Check out section 1.11 in dbarker's manual link above.

PS. Can you post the whole screen of the POST above. What's after 'Bad BIOS checksum. Starting.

If your computer has a floppy drive, follow the instructions for using a floppy to flash your
BIOS. Then put the floppy disk in the drive before you start up.

If no floppy, follow the instructions for building and burning a cd/dvd disc for flashing the BIOS.
And make sure the disc is in the drive before you start the computer.

It appears that the computer is looking for a disc with the BIOS file on it.

The PC is in BIOS recovery mode. Since you lost the support CD which contains the original BIOS file, uownload the latest BIOS update from Asus (previously linked) burn it to CD or copy it to floppy if you have one. Place the CD or insert the floppy before you power up the PC.

what does BIOS file looks like it is this 'P4VP1013.AMI' ??? so only that file should I burn to a DVD ?

or should I put also the 'AFUDOS' on the Disk ??? because it says here

How come the extension is '.ROM' whereas in the ASUS website and you download the BIOS file the extension in '.AMI' like 'P4VP1013.AMI'

Read on section 2.1.4, Recovering the BIOS with CrashFree BIOS2. The BIOS recovery program is searching for the BIOS file in floppy drive, if not found, in the CD drive, etc. (That's what you see in your screen).To be sure, rename a copy of the file file, P4VP1013.AMI to P4VP1013.ROM. Burn both files (AMI and ROM and the AFUDOS program to CD and let CrashFree BIOS do its thing.

Try a bootable floppy or CD with the BIOS files and the AFUDOS program on it. Probably the restore program is looking for a bootable media. When you get the command prompt, run AFUDOS following the instruction from the manual.
